Ye, pretty sure it doesn't actually hint at the (first) racing ship being transfered to the NPCs. I did expect it so nothing I couldn't or didn't want to spare was lost but it might be prudent to make it clearer that the player doesn't get to keep the ship they deliver during the Worker Welfare questline.

Well, the Pegasus Vanguard is a good start with a base speed of 376m/s. Although there are some better options for flat out sub travel speeds if you have some of the DLCs.
